CAC Metal Recycling is seeking a Health and Safety Officer to oversee and support health and safety activities across all operational areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing safety policies and procedures, conducting inspections and audits, coordinating incident investigations, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, delivering employee training, and maintaining accurate safety records. The role will work closely with management and employees to identify hazards, reduce workplace risks, and drive continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assign projects to subordinates and staff related to work safety, environmental safety and accident prevention.
- Direct and control daily operations
- Evaluate daily operations
- Investigate outbreaks of diseases and food poisoning
- Motivate staff
- Plan and organize daily operations
- Provide information/training to employers, employees and general public
- Review HR directives to assure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations
- Train staff
- Conduct surveys and monitoring programs of the natural environment
- Establish and implement policies and procedures
- Inspect spills of hazardous chemicals or products
- Oversee the classification and rating of occupations
- Inspect workplaces for safety or health hazards
- Investigate workplace accidents or illnesses
- Manage contracts
- Initiate enforcement procedures to fine or close an establishment
- Manage training and development strategies
- Oversee the analysis of employee data and information
- Oversee development of communication strategies
- Develop and implement health and safety plans
- Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
- Oversee the preparation of reports
- Advise senior management
- Respond to employee questions and complaints
- Coaching
- Conduct performance reviews
- Evaluate work environments, programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury
- Transport raw materials, finished products and packaging materials
- Plan, organize and oversee operational logistics of the organization
Qualifications
- Radiation safety officer (RSO-1)
- First Aid Certificate
- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) program
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
